It’s About the Land

Now that the economy seems to be slowly recovering, the wood lot or open field in your neighborhood maybe at renewed risk of loss as open space. It’s a mistake to presume that woodland or an open pasture is land that no one will ever developed for houses or some other use. Brightly colored flagging tape tied to brush and trees might also appear at regular intervals delineating a wetlands soil boundary or some other feature.

Maybe it is time for us, as a community, to consider our vision for the remaining woodlands and fields near us or viewed from afar. Such land maybe important habitat for wildlife, a scenic view or screening for industrial/commercial land. This open-space may be here today; but it could be gone tomorrow. It doesn’t have to be that way.

Your Land Trust, the NBLCT, is compiling an inventory on quality open land in town that has thus far escaped development. Let us know if you have information about a parcel of land that would qualify as open space. We want to work with you. Saving land is important and we can explain how it can be done. There is an alternative to development. You can contact us at info@NBLandTrust.org or by snail mail, and NBLCT, P.O. Box 378, North Branford, CT 06471
